Tonight was an amazing night. Even though my kids were disappointed at not being able to sail and watch the fireworks at the KaBoom festival (the spark plugs on the boat were worn, I know the captain is going to take us out sometime), I ended up having six and half hours to hang out with Logan, who, in Logan's words was maybe not Ned's best friend (although I think he was darn close), but Ned was his best friend.
Logan and I met over the years a number of times, of course, but it was always pretty short and we never got to know each other at all. It is sad that it is Ned's death that has brought us together, but maybe that is one of the lessons of Ned.
Logan is a wonderfully funny, thoughtful, and caring person who I know will not replace my brother but will bring so much to me of Ned's life that I miss and missed. Ned lives on through him and also, it cuts the grief in half and doubles the joy to be with him. The boat never took off but Logan and my friendship took off to last our lifetimes. I am very grateful and Ned would have wanted this.
